Legislators to Host Budget Discussion

Guglielmo, Ackert to preside over an open forum at Lake Street School on Thursday.

State Sen. Tony Guglielmo and State Rep. Timothy Ackert are scheduled to continue their tour of north central Connecticut towns to discuss the state budget this week in Vernon.

Guglielmo and Ackert have slated Thursday for a town hall meeting at Lake Street School, 201 Lake St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The legislators will entertain questions on the looming state budgetary deficit and alternatives to Governor Dannel P. Malloy's proposal to increase taxes.

Legislators have been conducting the meetings in towns across the region.

Locally, the Town Council has forwarded a $79,293,749 bottom line to the April 26 Annual Town Meeting. That's an increase of just .4 percent over this year's $78.7 million budget and a number that would drop the tax rate from its current level of 30.02 mills to 29.9 mills.
