Economic Commission's All-Star Lineup Enhanced by Mayor
Meghan Scranton has been appointed to the Economic Development Commission.
Mayor George Apel has appointed another prominent business person to the town's Economic Development Commission.
The Town Council on Tuesday endorsed the appointment of Meghan Scranton, a Republican, of Scranton Motors, to the commission. She lives in Coventry, but is a principal of the Cadillac, Buick and GMC dealership on Talcottville Road that just underwent a major renovation.
He term expires on June 30, 2017.
The commission is a who's who of local business people.
Apel said he has no problem with Scranton not being a resident of Coventry because she does business in Vernon.
Council Democrat Michael Winkler wondered aloud whether prominent business owners would create a potential conflict regarding any competition that might come by. Apel said the commission has been focusing more on "the big picture" and has been discussing things like the town's branding.
