DPW Chief Offers Cardboard Tips

He said to take a practical approach to recycling cardboard.

Public Works Director Robert Kleinhans is urging residents to be practical when it comes to recycling cardboard.

Better than 85 percent of all products that are sold in the United States are packed in cardboard.

Any cardboard that is thick in nature should be first flattened out and unfolded before being placed in the recycling cart, he said.

If possible, cardboard may be cut into smaller pieces as to avoid smaller recyclables being jammed in the bottom of the cart, he said.

Flattened cardboard will take up less space leaving more room for other recyclables, he said.
