DiDio Making his Mayoral Run Official on Wednesday

He will be speaking at a Democratic Town Committee election event.

Town Council member Thomas DiDio is set to make his campaign for mayor official on Wednesday. 

DiDio is to speak at a Vernon Democratic Town Committee kickoff reception for the 2013 municipal election season scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Rockville Elks Lodge, 9 N. Park St. 

Honorary hosts for the event include U.S. Rep. Joseph Courtney - a Vernon resident, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and State Rep. Claire Janowski. 

New Democratic Town Committee Chairman Bill Dauphin will serve as master of ceremonies. Refreshments will be served.

DiDio filed papers for an exploratory committee in late February. He said he has had an "overwhelmingly positive response" about his candidacy from the public and from fellow members of the VDTC. 

He said he plans to focus his campaign on the "importance of education toVernon’s future," and economic development in town.

DiDio is in his first term as a council member. He sits on the council's Union Negotiation and Ordinance Review committees. 

Before the council, DiDio served as chairman of the Vernon Democratic Town Committee. He has also served as chairman of the Water Pollution Control Authority, and was the founding chairman of the Vernon Recycling Committee.

DiDio said he considers himself "a passionate advocate for Rockville," and he has served as participation chairman for the annual July in the Sky downtown celebration and the annual Rockville Fest for the past three years, and for National Night Out for the past four years. He was co-chairman of the RCA portion of the 2012 Vernon Winter Fest.

He is an active member of the Rockville Community Alliance and serves on the Miss Greater Rockville Scholarship Committee and is a past member of the Dickens Day Committee. He currently chairs a committee seeking to build a skate park in town.
DiDio has served on the Indian Valley YMCA board of directors and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 86 Committee.

DiDio is the account manager for health care at Elm Press in Terryville. 

He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from the University of Hartford. He is a parishioner at St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville, and lives in Vernon with his wife Pam and his son Eric. 

His daughter Katie lives in Terryville and his son Sam lives with his family in Stafford.
