Courtney Views bin Laden Photos

The U.S. Congressman said the decision not to release the photos is the right one.

U.S. Rep. Joseph Courtney traveled to the CIA headquarters in Langley, VA, today with other members of the House Armed Services Committee to view photographs taken after the raid of Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan earlier this month.

Courtney, a Vernon resident and representative in the Second Congressional District, released the following statement after viewing the photos:

"As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I was invited to Langley to view numerous photographs taken by Navy SEALS of Osama bin Laden’s remains."

"Upon viewing the photos, two things are clear: The accounts of Osama bin Laden’s demise as told by President Obama and Adm. William McRaven are accurate beyond dispute and their decision not to publicly release these photos was the right one.”

On May 1, President Barack Obama announced that bin Laden, the al-Qaeda chief who was the impetus behind the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, had been killed in a military operation.
