Council to Kick Off New Term on Tuesday

Motola picked by Republicans for mayor pro tem designation.

The Town Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday night at 7 at Town Hall in the first meeting since last Tuesday's election.

George Apel, a Republican, was elected mayor and he will serve as chairman of the council.

The Republicans came away with a 7-5 majority.

After Thursday's swearing-in ceremony, local Republicans conducted their first caucus of the new term and Brian Motola was endorsed for mayor pro tem, or deputy mayor.

Motola served in that capacity during the past term. He read most of the motions at council meetings. He was also the top vote-getter on Tuesday among council candidates with 2,372.

The council is scheduled to vote on the endorsement this Tuesday.

Judith Hany was chosen as majority leader.
