The finance information was filed with the FEC on July 15, as required by law. A supplementary pre-primary filing was made on July 25.

Formica, the first selectman of East Lyme, entered the race less than a week before the party convention in May. Novak, who was the party's candidate for the seat two years ago but then lost in a primary to Janet Peckinpaugh, decided to primary after she lost the nomination.

The winner of the Aug. 14 primary will face off against incumbent Democrat Joe Courtney of Vernon.

Nearly all of Formica's donations come from his home area of New London County. Novak's donations cover a wider geographical area, including outside Connecticut.

Formica is clearly the hometown favorite. His largest donations came from David Adams of East Lyme, Sandra LaFond and Nazzareno Paciotti of Niantic, all of whom contributed the legal maximum of $2,500 per person. Formica also has a number of contributions for $1,000 or more. James Witkins, chairman of the Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education, was the only donor from Lyme, and he contributed $500 to Formica's campaign.

Novak, in contrast, had no contributions from anyone in East Lyme, Niantic, or Lyme.
