Woman Involved in Beating, Robbery of Disabled Vernon Man Enters Plea

The woman, one of three involved in the incident, entered her plea Tuesday.

A Manchester woman who was involved in the February 2012 beating and robbery of a 55-year-old disabled Vernon man entered her plea in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday.

Ashley Secore, 19, plead guilty under the Alford doctrine to "being an accessory to second-degree robbery, being an accessory to third-degree assault and first-degree failure to appear in court," according to a report by the Hartford Courant.

The Alford doctrine is a "plea in which the defendant does not admit guilt, but agrees that the state has enough evidence against him or her to get a conviction," according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch Web site.

She faces up to 16 years in prison, according to the Courant.

A police investigation revealed that Secore "conspired and planned to rob the victim" with friends Shataneka Brown, 19, of Rockville and Darnell Stellmacher, 32, of Hartford.

The victim required medical treatment for "numerous" injuries, including contusions to his eyes and face, a fractured nose and a laceration to his hand, Patch previously reported.

Secore is scheduled to next appear in court for sentencing on Friday, August 9.
