Woman Allegedly Assaults Officers After Crash

In addition to assault charges, the accused was charged with a DUI.

According to Vernon Police, two officers were assaulted following their response to the scene of a late-night car crash Fri., Jan. 13.

A woman, identified by the Hartford Courant as Jessica Reid, was involved in a head-on, two-car crash at the intersection of Regan Road and Mary Lane, according to Vernon Police.

Police said that Reid "became combative and assaulted a police officer who was trying to immobilize her neck to minimize the risk of a spinal chord injury."

At the police station, she failed a sobriety test and was charged with DUI, police said.

Police added that Reid continued to be uncooperative, assaulting another officer who "asked her to sign a Miranda Rights form... and, after refusing to be processed, she was additionally charged with failure to provide fingerprints."

Reid was held overnight in lieu of a $5,000 surety bond, which was posted by family members Saturday morning, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 24, 2012.
