Wednesday Was Click It or Ticket Day in Vernon

An enforcement checkpoint was set up near exit 66.

It was Vernon's turn on Wednesday to participate in the federal Click It or Ticket campaign.

A checkpoint was set up along Whitney T. Ferguson III Road, right before the exit 66 westbound on-ramp to Interstate-84, at about 8:30 a.m.

Vernon Police Department spokesman Lt. William Meier said the enforcement effort targeted three areas:

• Seat belt use.

• Distracted driving.

• Infant and toddler and booster seat use.

A spotter is typically used to alert officers at the checkpoint of violators - in this case an undercover officer positioned on Bolton Road.  

The fines are $92 for both car seat and seat belt violations. The fines for cell phone use violations are $125 for the first offense, $250 for the second and $400 for the third.
