Update: Vernon Police Charge 19-year-old With DUI

The arrest report says her alcohol level was eight times beyond the legal limit for a driver under the age of 21.

Vernon police have arrested a 19-year-old from Tolland for a drunken driving incident in which her blood alcohol level was more than eight times beyond the legal limit for her age, according to a news release.

At 2:11 a.m. on Sunday, Zoey Pinto was observed traveling through a stop sign without stopping on Dobson Road near Hartford Turnpike, according to a news release.

An arrest report indicated that Pinto lives at 35 Doyle Rd, Tolland.

A traffic stop was conducted and an officer smelled alcohol on Pinto, who is 19, according to a news release. 

A series of field sobriety tests were performed which Pinto failed, police said. She was arrested and transported to Vernon police headquarters and routinely processed, according to a news release.

She was afforded the opportunity to take a breath test, which did did and it revealed that her blood alcohol content was .175 initially and .165 on a second test, which is approximately 8.5 times the legal limit for an individual younger than 21, police said.

Pinto was also found to have narcotic pills not stored in a prescription container, according to a news release. 

Pinto was charged with:

• Driving under the influence.
• Failure to keep narcotics in prescription container.
• Failure to obey a stop sign.

She was being held in lieu of a $1,500 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday, according to a news release.
