Vernon Man Survives Collision With Wrong-Way Driver

Crash is one of two fatals over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

A Vernon man was involved in one of two fatal accidents on state highways over the Thanksgiving holiday, according to a State Police accident report.

He broke his leg in the crash in East Hartford, but otherwise, his injuries were not life-threatening, State Police said.

A car driven by Alexander Rodriguez, 25, of 165 South Street, Unit 39, collided with another on Routes 5 and 15 southbound, near exit 90, State Police said. The driver of the other car, Noel Lopez, 26, was traveling the wrong way, State Police said.

Both were transported to Hartford Hospital, where Lopez was pronounced dead, State Police said. 

The crash is still under investigation and State Police are asking any witnesses to contact them at Troop H, 860-534-1000.
