A Vernon man is facing serious charges related to the theft of a car from a local dealership and attempted sexual assault, police said this afternoon.
A news conference has been scheduled for later today outline the case against Mark Joseph Tucker, 54. who lives at 155 West Main St., police said.
Tucker was charged with first-degree larceny when he was found to be in possession of a stolen Cadillac Escalade, valued at about $50,000, that was recently stolen from Scranton Motors in Vernon.
He was taken into custody at 10:23 p.m. on Wednesday for that charge, police said. His bond was initially set at $50,000 surety, but a judge today cut the amount in half today, police said.
This afternoon, Tucker was charged with the attempted sexual assault of a minor, risk of injury to a minor and criminal attempt to deliver alcohol to a minor, police said. The incident involved a boy police said is 13 years old, a department spokesman said. Tucker is a registered sex offender in Vermont, police said.
He is to be arraigned on those charges on Friday, police said. The judge did place a $50,000 cash-only bond on those charges and Tucker remained in custody, police said.
