Vernon Man Facing New Set of Theft-Related Charges

He was also charged in September.

A 20-year-old Vernon resident surrendered to authorities early Wednesday morning after learning of an outstanding warrant for his arrest, according to a Vernon Police Department arrest report.

Joshua Groves, of 11 Eva Circle, reported to the Vernon police station at 1:30 a.m. to address a warrant for three counts of sixth-degree larceny, police said.

Police said the case involved stolen GPS units that were in his possession.

It was a joint investigation between Vernon Police Department and the Resident State Trooper office in Ellington, Vernon police said.

Groves was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Rockville on March 6, according to an arrest report.

Groves was in trouble last fall for an incident at Five Corners.

On Sept. 7, Groves was arrested after state police responded to the Cumberland Farms gas station, 5 Wapping Wood Rd. in Ellington, state police said. A woman reported that a male had entered her vehicle and taken money from her wallet. The vehicle then left the scene headed in the direction of Vernon, state police said, and the vehicle was eventually tracked down.

Groves was charged for that incident with third-degree burglary from a motor vehicle, sixth-degree larceny from a motor vehicle, and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, state police said.

He was also charged with DUI for the incident, state police said.
