South Windsor police added charges to a Vernon man Wednesday in connection with an October 2012 motor vehicle accident in which he allegedly drove into a house on Niederwerfer Road.

Jeffrey Daigneault, 36, of 15 Highland Ave, Vernon, was charged with assault in the second degree and was held on $20,000 surety bond. He was presented at Manchester Superior Court later on Wednesday morning, April 10.

One of the occupants of the home at 7 Niederwerfer Road sustained serious injuries due to a wall collapsing, according to police Sgt. Scott Custer.  An arrest warrant was obtained for Daigneault and was served Wednesday morning.

Daigneault was originally charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and reckless driving, according to South Windsor Chief of Police Matthew Reed.

According to police, Daigneault was traveling west on Dart Hill Road at a high rate of speed when his car, a red 2003 Toyota Avalon, failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Dart Hill and Niederwerfer Road.

The Toyota continued across the intersection, through a yard and into the side of the white, two-story, wooden structure at 7 Niederwerefer Road. The residents of the second-floor apartment were not at home at the time of the accident.
