Two Vernon Residents Charged with Multiple Drug Offenses

Members of the East Central Narcotics Task Force seized the drugs and paraphernalia from a residence on Diane Drive on Thursday.

The following information was provided by the East Central Narcotics Task Force:

On Dec. 27, the East Central Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at 71 Diane Dr. in Vernon.

Task force officers had developed information that narcotic activity was taking place at this address. Task force officers initiated an investigation and obtained sufficient evidence to secure a search warrant for the premises.

Task force officers seized heroin, heroin packaging material, marijuana, marijuana grow equipment and other drug paraphernalia.   

Police charged Taylor M. Sears, 29, of 71 Diane Dr. with possession of heroin, possession of drugs within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a drug factory. Sears was held on a $20,000 surety bond.

Police also charged Mitchell T. Layaw, 27, of 71 Diane Dr., with possession of heroin, possession of drugs within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin with intent to sell. Sears was held on a $10,000 surety bond.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Jan. 8.

The East Central Narcotics Task Force, in cooperation with other municipal, and federal law enforcement agencies, is interested in stopping illegal narcotics sales and use in the Manchester, South Windsor, Vernon, and Glastonbury communities.
