Top Criminalist Henry Lee to Speak in Vernon

Lee to appear at Explorers event.

One of the top forensic scientists of a generation is coming to Vernon next month.

The Vernon Police Explorer Post 800 is sponsoring "An Evening With Dr. Henry C. Lee" Saturday, Oct, 8, at 5 p.m. at the Rockville High School auditorium.

Lee was Connecticut's chief criminalist from 1979 to 2000 and he has played a prominent role in many of the most challenging cases of the last 40 years.

Lee has authored hundreds of articles in professional journals and has co-authored more than 25 textbooks, covering areas like DNA, fingerprints, trace evidence, crime scene investigation and crime scene reconstruction.

Lee has worked with law enforcement agencies to help solve more than 6,000 cases. In recent years, his travels have taken him to England, Bosnia, China, Brunei, and other locations around the world.

Lee was a consultant in the Richard Craft "Wood Chipper" murder, the William Kennedy Smith trial, the O.J. Simpson trial and the Jon Benet Ramsay case.

The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, affiliated with the University of New Haven, opened in the fall of 1998.

Because of the potential graphic nature Vernon police said the event is not recommended for those younger than 14.
