Thursday Checkpoint in Vernon Produces 13 Stops Before Midnight, Police Said

It's Manchester's turn on Friday.

Vernon Police and members of Metro Traffic Services stopped 13 vehicles before midnight on Thursday at part of a federally funded sobriety checkpoint, an incident log points out.

And they made one arrest.

The checkpoint was set up near Langan Volkswagen, 167 Hartford Turnpike.

At 10:33 p.m., Ktordies James, 25, of 22 Highland Ave, Vernon, was stopped at the checkpoint, according to an arrest report. Police said he failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was charged with driving under the influence, released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10, police said.

The checkpoint ran until 2 p.m. Friday. A complete set of results is still being compiled.

A similar operation has been scheduled for roads in on Friday.

The operations are being funded through a federal "Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Program" grant that is a regional effort to combat drunken driving through the use of checkpoints and roving patrols, police said.
