Thief Runs off With Cash at Vernon Store

The clerk was not injured, police said.

Vernon police are investigating a hold-up at a local convenience store. 

The robbery took place on Saturday at 2:19 a.m. at the Xtra Mart, located at 1302 Hartford Turnpike, according to a news release. 

A lone male entered the store and implied to the clerk he had a weapon, according to a news release. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.  

The clerk was not injured.  

A police dog from East Hartford attempted a track, but was unsuccessful in locating the suspect, according to a news release. Vernon detectives responded and collected evidence at the scene.  

No surveillance photos were immediately available, police said.

The man is described as black with a thin build, wearing a green hat, red jacket and black pants, according to a news release.
