Teen Facing Risk of Injury Charge

The charge was the result of a one-month investigation, police said.

A Vernon teen has been charged with risk of injury to a child for illegal contact with a minor she knows, police said.

Police said the relationship was sexual in nature.

Ashley Garcia, 18, of 16 Park West Drive, reported to Vernon police at 8 a.m. on Thursday after learning of a warrant for her arrest, police said.

Police said the arrest was the result of a one-month investigation into allegations of an illegal sexual relationship. Garcia allegedly tried to enter into a relationship with a 14-year-old girl, police said. She was also charged with tampering with a witness about two weeks ago, as part of the investigation, police said.

Her bond was set at $5,000, police said. Garcia is to turn 19 in one month, according to police records.
