Strange Behavior Keeping Authorities Busy

The latest? A gas grill indoors.

The bizarre but dangerous post-storm practices of some residents continue to keep firefighters and police officers busy.

Today, firefighters had to remove a patio gas grill that residents were cooking on inside their home.

Authorities also had to respond to an incident at the shelter when parents dropped their children off there and went to work.

Also this week, a resident closed the vent to a fireplace while an artificial log was fully engulfed to conserve heat. His explanation to the fire marshal was that it was a fake log, therefore a fake fire.

Another resident pulled a hybrid car into a garage and tried to use it as a generator. The inverter blew up.

So far during the storm period, Vernon police have received 743 complaints and 776 calls via the 911 system Chief james Kenny said. A normal month is 923 calls, he said.
