State Police: Hartford Man Was Killed on I-84 After Exiting His Vehicle

The driver of the other car was from New York, state police said.

State police have identified the man who was killed in a crash on Interstate-84 in Vernon on Monday as a 29-year-old Hartford man.

At 9:28 p.m., troopers were called to an accident involving a pedestrian, according to an accident report.

State police said that a car driven by Kent Davaughn, of 140 Hartland St., Hartford, was involved in a crash at the center median between exits 66 and 65 traveling west.

Davaughn had exited his vehicle and was struck by another vehicle traveling in the extreme left lane on I-84, state police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The driver of the vehicle, James Avila, 25, of 110 Bedell Place, Melville, NY, was taken to Rockville general Hospital with lacerations to the face, state police said. A passenger in that vehicle, Kristen Sweeney, 24, of 131 Beachwood Ave., Kennebunkport, ME, was not injured, state police said.

The crash is still under investigation.  State police said anyone with information on the crash is asked top call the Troop C barracks at 860-896-3200.
