Reports: Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident — Stretch of Rt. 30 Closed in Vernon

The accident occurred at about 7:20 a.m., the Hartford Courant reports.

A pedestrian was struck and killed in an accident sometime before 8 a.m. Wednesday on Hyde Avenue (Rt. 30) near the intersection with East Street, WFSB-TV is reporting.

WFSB-TV also reports:

The incident has closed Rt. 30 from its intersections with Kingsbury Avenue and East Street, with the rode closure expected to last several hours.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police won't release the name of the victim until family has been notified. Police are still looking into how the incident happened.

Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to call Vernon Police at (860) 872-9126.

A serious motor vehicle crash has closed Rt. 30 in both directions between South Street and the Tolland Line, NBC Connecticut has reported.

A helicopter was initially called in to transport the injured to a hospital, but then it was called off, the television station reports on its website.

The closed area is about half a mile long, from South Street to near the intersection of Rt. 30 and Bridlewood Ln. In that area, Rt. 30 is Hyde Lane and part of Hartford Turnpike.
