Reward Being Offered for Friday Bank Robber

Vernon police are still seeking information on the suspect and the FBI is now assisting with the investigation.

A reward has been offered for a man wanted in connection with a Friday bank robbery at the People's United Bank at the Tri-City Plaza, police said.
Vernon detectives are continuing to investigate the robbery at the bank, located at 35 Talcottville Rd.

Police have been seeking the public’s help in identifying the robber

An "up to $2,000 cash reward" is being offered by the Connecticut Bankers Association for information leading to the capture and conviction of the suspect or suspects, police said.

“We know that someone out there has information about this robbery," said Lt. William Meier of the Vernon Police Department's Detective Division.  "Even information that seems minimal or trivial may be important to the investigation.

Meier continued, "We are most interested in speaking to anyone who was near Tri-City Plaza between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Friday June 21, 2013. Also, someone may know a person who suddenly has an unexplained large amount of money."

Meier said  anyone with information is urged to call Vernon police at 860-872-9126. Callers may remain anonymous.

Police conducted an informational checkpoint on Kelly Road on Saturday morning and then canvassed area businesses in an attempt locate witnesses.

In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's New Haven Office is now assisting in the investigation.

The bank robber is being described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a black T-shirt over a gray sweatshirt, brown sweatpants and black sneakers. He had a black mask over his face that had eye holes and some kind of glasses underneath the mask, police said. Police said the robber may not have been wearing the clothing during the time before or after the robbery, or may have had an accomplice.

Police said the robber followed a bank employee into the branch when it opened Friday morning, tied up an employee, left with an undisclosed amount of cash and stole an employee's car. The car was found in Manchester.

A bank camera captured an image of the suspect and it is attached.

The bank was also robbed on May 25 in what is being treated as a separate incident.
