The incident began at a local hotel, police said.

A Hartford man allegedly beat up his friend at a local hotel, took his cell phone and was chased down by police before being charged with robbery and assault, Vernon police said.

According to a police report, the incident took place at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday. Angel Burgos, a 23-year-old resident of 238 Sigourney St. in Hartford, was at the Motel 6 on Hartford Turnpike in Vernon and got into it with a friend, police said.
Burgos began fighting with his friend, stole his cell phone and left the premises, police said.

He was followed along the highway by a Vernon officer and was pulled over on Deming Street in Manchester after exiting, police said. The friend was taken to Rockville General Hospital with undisclosed injuries and released, police said.

Burgos was charged with first-degree robbery, a qualifying charge foe the circumstances, police said. He was also charged with second-degree assault for the fight, police said.

Additional charges include sixth-degree larceny and interfering, police said. The car was unregistered and uninsured and Burgos did not have a driver's license, police said.
