Police Respond to Scooter Crash on Washington Street

The scooter was the only vehicle involved in the incident, police said.

A Vernon man who police say has a history of drunken driving was taken into custody on a DUI charge after wrecking his scooter on a local road on Friday, police said.

At about 3:52 p.m., Vernon Police responded to the area near 191 Washington Street for a report of a motorized scooter accident, a department spokesman said.

Officers found 52-year-old Todd Duncan of 48 Russell Dr., standing next to a scooter with facial injuries, according to a news release. Through their investigation, officers determined that Duncan had crashed the scooter while driving it on Washington Street, according to a news release.

No other vehicles were involved, police said.

Duncan was arrested for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .237, which is almost three times the legal limit, police said.

He was treated at Rockville General Hospital for his injuries, police said.
Duncan has several prior DUI arrests and convictions, police said. He also has a suspended license and was charged for that, police said. He is presently being held in lieu of a $100,000.00 surety bond and if he does not post bond, he will appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday, according to a news release.
