Police: Pedestrian Killed on Route 83

A man was hit by a vehicle, police said.

A fatal car crash closed Route 83 on Friday night and left an accident reconstruction team trying to piece together what happened. 

A Vernon police shift commander said the crash took place at 7:39 p.m. near 205 Talcottville Road - the local name for Route 83. That is near Pancho Loco restaurant and Adam's Polish Foods. 

The shift commander said a man walking along the road was hit by a vehicle. 

Firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel scrambled to the scene and immediately closed the road off. 

An crash team from metro Traffic Services followed, the shift commander said. 

Police were still trying to identify the victim at 9:46 p.m., the shift commander said. CPR was administered at the scene and he was transported to an area hospital, the shift commander said. He said it would take some time to reopen the road.
