Police: Officer, Canine Partner Intercept Illegal Firearm

The case began as a emissions stop, police said.

An alert police dog and his partner found an illegal, loaded gun - and an illegal drug - in a car after a traffic stop on Monday, police said.

Officer Christopher Hunt, and his canine partner Narko, pulled over Chace Hernandez, 22, for an emissions violation at 8:10 p.m. on Monday, according to an arrest report. The stop was conducted at 31 Union St., according to a report.

Narko located marijuana in the car and then he and Hunt discovered a loaded, .25-caliber semi automatic handgun in the vehicle, a police spokesman said.

There is no permit for the gun, the spokesman said.

Hernandez lives at 8 McLean St., Vernon, an arrest report indicates.

He was charged with failure to comply with Connecticut's emissions inspection law, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and weapons in a motor vehicle, police said.

Henandez posted a $2,500 bond and is due on court on Oct. 2, according to an arrest report.
