POLICE NEWS: Murphy Retiring From The Force

He will start a new career at the Capitol on Friday.

Officer Timothy Murphy, a 20 year veteran of the Vernon Police Department, was honored at a lunchtime reception on Wednesday. Murphy is retiring to become a police officer with the State Capitol Police Department.

Murphy is a former D.A.R.E instructor and had been assigned to the Vernon Center Middle School as a school resource officer. He joined the Vernon department in 1991.

Murphy said today he is beginning his new position Friday.

The Vernon Police Explorer Post 800 is undertaking a fund-raising drive.

The explorers have contracted with Shelton-based C.T. Maher Promotions Inc. to conduct the fund-raising drive. The company will be calling homes and businesses in town into late May.

Advertisements are also being sold for a safety-themed coloring book that will be distributed to children in town.

Donations will help defray the operating costs of the explorer post and pay for uniforms, training, competitions, social events and an annual awards dinner.
