A 22 Ward St. resident is facing drug and assault charges after an incident with the girl next door early this morning, police said.

The woman is also facing an assault charge.

At 12:41 a.m., police went to the Ward Street residence after receiving a complaint that a man and woman were arguing there. Police said Jeffrey Paul Murphy, 42, said the woman, 43-year-old Betzaida Torrez, of 23 Ward St.,  hit him on the head with an ashtray, causing swelling over his left eye.

Torrez accused Murphy of hitting her.

Police said Torrez and Murphy were both charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. Murphy was also charged with drug possession after police found what they believe is marijuana in his pocket.

Both were assigned $3,000 bonds and were to appear on court today.
