Police: Motorist Rams Flag Pole Near Building Department

Man is facing DUI charge, according to arrest report.

A Vernon man rammed his vehicle into a West Main Street flag pole early Monday morning in a drunken driving incident, police said.

Police said that Krzystof Tomkiel, 26, of 56 Kevin Dr., is due in court on Aug. 22 to answer a DUI charge and also one for evading responsibility.

He was being held early this morning on a $2,500 bond, police said.

Tomkiel was arrested at 1:12 a.m., police said.

Police said he was traveling northbound on West Main Street. Police said Tomkiel drove over the right shoulder of the road near 55 Main St. and hit a flag pole head-on in front of the building, which houses the municipal Building Department.

He then left the scene on foot and was later located by police, according to an arrest report.
