When Vernon police arrived at 144 Terrace Drive at approximately 3:28 a.m. Friday, March 21, they found a woman inside the apartment who had been soaked in Amaretto liqueur.
The woman alleged that Ramon Gomez, 32, of 39 Flower St., Manchester, poured liquor on her and attempted to light her with a disposable lighter following a physical altercation.
Several children were there and had been splashed with Amaretto as well, police said. There were no reported injuries to the children. The Department of Children and Families was notified.
Gomez was unsuccessful in lighting the woman on fire, despite multiple attempts, police said. She was able to escape the apartment with the children and Gomez also left.
The woman contacted a family member, who called police. Gomez was located a short time later by Manchester police at his residence on Flower Street.
He was charged with:
- Risk of injury
- Breach of peace in the second degree
- Reckless endangerment in the first degree
- Criminal attempted assault in the first degree
Vernon police arrested Gomez and brought him back to the Vernon Police Department. He was held at the department in lieu of a $100,000 cash surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court Friday morning.
