Police Make Two Weekend DUI Arrests

Both of the accused due in court on Oct. 31, police said.

Two instances of operating a motor vehicle erratically over the weekend have landed two people in trouble for driving under the influence, police said.

At 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, a Vernon police officer, while on routine patrol,  pulled behind a green Ford Escape at the intersection of Hartford Turnpike and Center Road, according to a police report.

The traffic light was red. When it turned green, the vehicle remained stopped for about one minute, police said.

When the officer inched the police cruiser closer to check the registration plate of the Escape, the driver pulled away, according to an arrest report. The officer followed the vehicle onto West Street and observed the driver crossing the yellow road divider three times, according to an arrest report.

The officer then pulled the vehicle over, according to an arrest report, and determined the driver was intoxicated.

Amylee Picone, 56, of 18 Blueberry Circle, Ellington, was charged with DUI and driving in an improper lane, police said.

Her bond was set at $500 and she is due in court on Oct. 31.

Casey Castignetti, 23, of 31 Westford St., Stafford, is also due in court on Oct. 31. He is facing charges that include DUI, driving in an improper lane, operating a motor vehicle without a license and reckless driving, police said.

On Friday at 11:49 p.m., he was stopped for driving without a left front tire,according to an arrest report.

Police said he was found to be intoxicated.

Bond was set at $500.
