Police Investigate Knife Incident at Maple Street School

A VPD spokesman said no charges will be filed.

Vernon police have investigated a reported knife incident at Maple Street School but said no criminal charges are being pursued.

Police spokesman Lt. William Meier on Thursday night confirmed that an incident had been brought to the attention of the department and a joint investigation between education and law enforcement investigation was undertaken.
The incident involved two second-graders, one of which had a knife, Meier said. No one was injured, he said.

He said because of the age of the students involved and the nature of the incident, it was more appropriate to turn the case over to the school system alone.

"From a police perspective, the case is closed," Meier said.
