Police: Doughnut Shop Employee Dunks Purse-Snatching Attempt

A Vernon man was charged for the incident, police said.

A staff member at the Rockville Dunkin' Donuts shamed an alleged purse-snatcher into returning the stolen bag to its rightful owner on Wednesday, police said.

Then, the man was charged with a pair of crimes, police said.

According to a police report, the scene unfolded at the Windsor Avenue Dunkin' Donuts at 12:38 p.m., when Shawn Olvera, 29, entered the store and allegedly took a purse belonging to a woman at a nearby table.

The bag was on the floor next to the woman, police said.

Olvera left the store and an employee heard the commotion and followed him to his residence at 3 Chamberlain St., a short distance away, police said.

The staff member then convinced Olvera to give up the purse, according to a police report.

Meanwhile, police were called and officers came to the house, according to a report. Olvera was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering, police said.
