The Vernon Police Department has announced the hiring of three officers and officially welcomed back another from military duty.
Officers James Platosh, 23, and Aaron Grechko, 27, graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy on Jan. 25. They began training in August of 2010. They will now undergo three months of training with field training officers before they begin their patrol duties.
On Ja. 23, Officer Andrew Hannaford, 22, was sworn in as the latest member of the Vernon Police Department. Hannaford comes from a family of police officers. His father is a Sergeant with the East Windsor Police Department and his brother is an officer with the Westfield State University Police Department in Massachusetts. Officer Hannaford began his training at the Connecticut Police Academy on Jan. 27, and is expected to graduate on July 11.
The 103rd Security Forces Squadron returned home from Afghanistan on Monday. The troops departed Connecticut in July and were assigned to the 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron at the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The unit performed duties ranging from improvised explosive device screening of vehicles entering the installation to command and control for the joint defense operations center.
Among the members of this unit was the Vernon Police Department's Officer Scott King. Officer King has been with the Vernon Police Department since May 2007. He is also a member of the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team. Officer King has to complete his deployment in the United States and is expected to return to his regular patrol duties of Vernon in March.
