Police: Deer Cause Two Monday Crashes on Hartford Turnpike

A motorcyclist was hurt badly in one accident, police said.

Twice within two hours on Monday motorists crashed while trying to avoid deer on Hartford Turnpike, police said.

And one of the incidents was serious, police said.

At 9 a.m., a motorist swerved and crashed while trying to get away from a deer on Hartford Turnpike, police said. The school is located at 777 Hartford Turnpike.

No one was injured and traffic was tied up for just a short while, police said.

That was not the case down the road, where a motorcyclist tried to avoid hitting a deer and wrecked, police said. The accident took place at about 11 a.m. just south of the Interstate-84 overpass near Connecticut Golf Land, police said.

The road was cleared about 90 minutes later, police said.

A passenger on the bike avoided serious injury, but the driver sustained "significant" injuries, police said. The driver was taken to an area hospital via Life Star helicopter, police said.

Police said preliminary indications were that the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
