Police Arrest Suspect in Stafford Subway Robbery

Stafford resident Charles Perkins was taken into custody Tuesday evening.

A Stafford resident has been arrested in connection with a weekend armed robbery of a local Subway restaurant.

Charles Perkins, 53, was taken into custody around 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 28 from his home after being identified as the suspect in the Jan. 25 robbery of the fast food restaurant located at 88 West Main St. in Stafford.

Police said in a press release Perkins entered the Subway around 7:45 p.m., displayed a firearm and demanding cash from the register. The employees complied, handed over the money and the suspect fled the scene in a silver Toyota.

State police distributed a composite sketch of the suspect to the media and, according to police, help from the public assisted investigators in developing a suspect and an arrest.

Perkins was taken into custody on a warrant. He was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace and operating a motor vehicle under suspension. He was also charged with possession of a facsimile firearm, indicating he allegedly used a fake gun during the robbery.

He was held on a $200,000 cash or surety court-set bond and is scheduled for presentment at Rockville Superior Court on Jan. 29.

Police did not give a street address for the suspect.
