Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects

Two men charged in Subway, People's Choice hold-ups.

Two suspects are in custody in connection with a series of armed robberies in north central Connecticut - including People's Choice Pizza on Route 83 and the Subway near Connecticut Golf Land, police said.

Jonathan King, 20, of 51 John Olds Dr., Manchester, was taken into custody on Wednesday on the Vernon charges while at Rockville Superior Court for another robbery case, according to an arrest report.

Police said for one Vernon case, he was charged with:

• Conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny
• Conspiracy to commit first-degree armed robbery
• Fifth-degree larceny
• First-degree robbery
• The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police said for the second Vernon case, the charges are:

• Conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny
• Conspiracy to commit first-degree armed robbery
• Sixth-degree larceny
• First-degree robbery
• The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The robbery at the pizza place was on Oct. 17 and the Subway job took place two days later, police said. On both occasions, a man walked into the shops, brandished a revolver, took money and fled on foot only to disappear almost immediately. 

King's arrest was the result of a joint investigation by several area agencies, Vernon police said.

Vernon police detectives apprehended King's accomplice, Ronnell Hall, 23, of 205 Plain Rd. East Hartford, after a robbery in East Hartford on Oct. 24, according to an arrest report.

Vernon detectives saw him running from an East Hartford package store armed with what appeared to be a handgun, according to an arrest report. Three Vernon detectives caught up to Hall, tackled him and took him into custody aft a struggle that lasted several minutes, according to an arrest report.

King was driving the getaway car and was taken into custody by Manchester police after being stopped a short time later, police said.

During the ensuing interviews, both confessed to committing the two October armed robberies in Vernon, plus several others in surrounding towns, according to an arrest report.

Police said in one case, Hall is charged with:

• Conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery
• Fifth-degree larceny
• first-degree robbery
• The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police said in another case, he was charged with:

• Conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery
• Conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny
• Sixth-degree larceny
• first-degree robbery
• The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Both appeared before a judge in Rockville Superior Court today.

Hall was assigned a $200,000 bond for each case and is being held while awaiting his next appearance on Dec. 16, court records indicate.

King is being held on a $100,000 bond for each incident and his case was continued until Dec. 9, court records indicate.
