Passenger in Speeding Stop Stirs the Pot With Vernon Police

He is due in court on Nov. 19, police said.

A Hartford man is due in court to face a slew of drug charges out of Vernon, a police report indicates. 

John Kelly, 36, of 93 Vanblock Ave., Hartford, was taken into custody on Election Day, police said. 

Police said Kelly was a passenger in a car stopped for speeding. Both occupants admitted to smoking marijuana and to possessing a small amount of pot. 

A search of the vehicle turned up more pot in Kelly's backpack, according to a police report. 

Kelly was charged with: 

• Possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or day care. 
• Marijuana possession. 
• Sale of a controlled substance. 
• The use of drug paraphernalia. 

He was released on a $10,000 surety bond, police said.
