Two Vernon residents were taken into custody on drug charges Wednesday after an operation by the East Central Narcotics Task Force, a news release indicates.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, task force officers and Vernon police were conducting a surveillance operation on a "known drug dealer" in Rockville, according to a news release.
The alleged dealer, Sylvester “Frank” Gillespie Jr. and his girlfriend, Crystal Velazquez were arrested after they were stopped on South Frontage Road, according to a news release.
Both Gillespie and Velazquez were taken into custody without incident, police said.
Task force members seized 7.8 grams crack cocaine and $500 in cash during the bust, according to a news release. Both are scheduled to appear in Rockville Court on Oct. 29, police said.
Police said the charges against Gillespie, 42, of 85 Old Town Rd., include:
• Possession of cocaine.
• Conspiracy to possess cocaine.
• Interfering with a police officer.
• Defective windshield.
• Failure to use a turn signal.
His bond was set at $15,000, surety, police said.
Police said the charges against Velazquez, 21, of 23 Ward St., include:
• Possession of cocaine.
• Conspiracy to possess cocaine.
Her bond was set at $5,000 non-surety, police said.
