OMG PD: Week Ending May 1, 2011

A look at some remarkable police cases from Connecticut.

The case: A is facing a breach of peace charge after trying to wrestle a cell phone from his girlfriend in Rockville.

The OMG PD twist: He wanted to see who was calling her, police said. When her phone rang, the man wrestled his girlfriend to the ground in an effort to check the phone call, police said. The incident took place near the local Salvation Army.

The case: A 28-year-old did a little more than complain about the high cost of gas. According to police, she ran out of a Mobil gas station in Fairfield with energy drinks she didn't pay for.

The OMG PD twist: The woman said that since Mobil stole from her, she was going to steal from Mobil. The woman reportedly pre-paid for $20 worth of gas at the station and became upset at how little gas she was able to pump before the $20 limit was reached and the nozzle shut off. She went inside, grabbed three, five-hour energy shots and ran from the store.

The case: A was arrested on an outstanding warrant for second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.

The OMG PD twist: When you have an outstanding warrant for burglary and a slew of other offenses against you, it’s probably not a smart idea to take a nap in front of the police station – and it’s certainly not a smart idea to do so while drunk. But that’s exactly what the man did outside of the downtown police substation at 707 Main St.

The case: A Willington man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Tolland.

The OMG PD Twist: The DUI took place while the man was attempting to pick up his girlfriend, who was being held at the barracks. Troopers suspected that the man was under the influence of something, and after conducting a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, troopers arrested the man.

The case: A is facing charges of disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.

The OMG PD twist: The man was found hiding on a roof. Police were looking for him because a victim allegedly told cops she got into an argument with him, during which time he broke items in her house. By the time police got to the scene, the defendant was found on a neighbor's roof.
