OMG PD: Feb. 23 - March 1

Cops charge a suspected heroin dealer at a Vernon Subway, and a Hartford man takes a watery drive into Lake Whitney.

The Case: Ricky Lyons, 40, of 12 Flatbush Ave., Hartford was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to sell, marijuana possession and tampering with evidence, according to police.

The OMG PD Twist: The East Central Narcotics Task force charged Lyons on Feb. 26 while he was working at the Windsor Avenue Subway restaurant in Vernon, police said. Officers had set up surveillance at the restaurant around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the police press release.

Lyons also attempted to place 10 bags of heroin in a garbage bin inside the restaurant before he was handcuffed, police report.

Officers had a search warrant for Lyons' car, in which they found more heroin and a small bag of marijuana, police said. According to police, Lyons is also facing a previous cocaine charge and is on parole for an assault charge.

Police are also charging Lyons with cocaine possession, possession of cocaine within 1,500 feet of a school, the sale of cocaine within 1,500 feet of a school, heroin possession, the sale of heroin, possession of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school and sale of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school, all stemming from several months of surveillance, police said.

Bond for all of the charges totals $1.15 million, according to the police press release.

The Case: Ashish Wadhwa, 26, of 80 Oxford St., Hartford was issued an infraction for traveling too fast, according to police.

The OMG PD Twist: Wadhwa was driving on Waite Street in Hamden on Monday night when his car veered off the road and ended up completely submerged in Lake Whitney, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found Wadhwa had escaped from his 2008 Mercedes Benz and was standing on the side of the road, police report.

Wadhwa's leg was injured in the accident, and the car will be removed from the lake, according to police.
