Motorist Helps Cops Stop Suspected Drunken Driver

The driver has previous DUI charges, police said.

A motorist alerted Vernon police to a suspected drunken driver late Thursday night and then followed the vehicle until officers could intercept it, an arrest report indicates.

The result was more charges levied against a repeat offender, police said.

At 10:52 p.m. on Thursday, police received a call from the motorist that a black Nissan Altima was stopped in the middle of Hartford Turnpike near Vernon Avenue, an arrest report indicates.

The motorist told a dispatcher she was following the vehicle and that the car was being operated erratically and traveling off the road, police said.

Vernon officers caught up to the vehicle on Bolton road and managed to get the driver to stop near 140 Bolton Road, according to an arrest report.

Police said they determined that Sarah Elizabeth Nipert, 34, of 2 Grove St., Stafford, was drunk. Further investigation revealed that it was the fourth time she had been arrested for driving under the influence, an arrest report indicates.

She also has a suspended license for DUI, police said.

The charges against Nipert are DUI, operating under suspension and making an improper lane change, police said.

Her bond was set at $5,000 and she was assigned a court date of June 18, police said.
