Motorcycle Driver Dodges Serious Injury After Crashing on Reservoir Road

The driver of a motorcycle escaped serious injury on Monday when he crashed his bike near a busy interchange off Interstate-84.

Capt. Tony Muniz of the Vernon Fire Department said at the scene that it was a one-vehicle crash. It was miraculous that the driver was not more seriously injured because, even at 9:30 at night, the intersection of Reservoir and Mile Hill roads is busy considering it lies just north of the exit 67 interchange on I-84 near the Tolland line.

A called was placed to Life Star to inquire about the availability of a medical transport helicopter, but the chopper was grounded because of weather, authorities said. The driver was transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital, Muniz said. The ambulance was adequate, he said.

Police were still working on their accident report shortly after the crash and the driver had not been identified. The crash is still under investigation.

The roads were still somewhat damp from a series of thunderstorms that hit town during the day.

The scene took about 30 minutes to clear. Firefighters at first were going to move the bike out of the center of the road, but then a tow truck arrived at the scene and carted it away.

Sand was then scattered in the roadway to dry up a small fluid spill.
