Convicted Sex Offender from Mansfield Charged With DUI in Vernon

Police said he was driving the wrong way on a busy road on Sunday.

A convicted sex offender living in Mansfield has been charged with driving under the influence in Vernon, a police news release indicates.

On Sunday morning, an officer observed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on a divided section of Route 83 in Vernon, according to the release.

The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as Efrain Morales, 43, of 1428 Stafford Road, Mansfield, police said. Morales failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

Morales was charged with DUI and failure to drive right and was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, police said.

Morales is a registered sex offender, police said. His original offense was kidnapping and raping a 6-year-old boy in 1997, according to the news release.

KIDNAPPING and RAPING a 6 year old boy in 1997, why is he even out of prison!!

Something is obviously broken in this guy but, I don't like how this story was reported. Do we ever see headlines which read: Convicted Arsonist from Mansfield Charged With DUI? Or Murderer? Drug Dealer? Wife Abuser? Shoplifter? Etcetera. This article is biased and promotional...a nasty little trend in unprofessional journalism these days.

Actually the article is reasonably written with the facts and all the traditional aspects one expects from a news story - Title, who, what, when, where and how... A persons criminal past, if any is also public information and possibly adds context.
On the other hand, I have read a few articles my friend Chris has written that might have been proofed better or run through the spellchecker... Lol - then again they probably don't pay him enough for all the hours he puts in.

I too find 2 weeks and 2 days to be a bit of an exaggeration. Both of my children still had homeworkRead More up until this week, tests were still being taken last week. This will I can see the movies being watched, as field days were taking place the first two days of this week, and today will be the 5th grade recognition.

I wish 2 weeks and 2 days was an exaggeration. My daughter has had no homework during this time, noRead More spelling, no tests. Just talk about movies (which we've been keeping a list of so I remember not to rent them during rainy days in summer) and packing boxes. I understand that cleaning the classroom at the end of the year helps to build a feeling of community and allows for reminiscence about the the year they have completed. However, I think doing this during the last week of school is acceptable, not for the entire month of June. From reading the above comments, I find some comfort in knowing that other classrooms are not having this issue.

My question to you would be...Have you contacted your child's teacher first before asking other'sRead More opinions? This is a prime example of why certain people should not be allowed to post on forums! You "Concerned Parent" If you had this complaint in November it may be valid if it was true. However, the last week or so of school is a winding down period of time in all schools. Homework tends to end as teachers get to the end of their curriculum. Just because a student doesn't have homework doesn't mean they are just watching movies all day. I volunteer my time at CRS and have been in the 5th grade room many times this month. I can tell you from my point of view things seem fairly busy. Besides, having students do "busy work" is in my opinion is an even bigger waste of time! Also...If you think for a minute this could be a reason for the bottom 30 label, you are just plain crazy!
