Man Charged With Home Invasion in Vernon After Using A Neighbor's Bathroom, Police Said

The incident was on Thursday, police said.

A weird incident on Thursday involving a bathroom break led to a registered sex offender being charged with home invasion, Vernon police said on Friday.

The incident took place on 5 Fern St., police said.

Timothy Johnson, who lives in the building, knocked on a neighbor's door and asked to use the bathroom, according to a police report. He had another person with him, police said.

The neighbor allowed the 51-year-old Johnson to use the bathroom and he and his companion left, police said.

The neighbor then saw Johnson back in his apartment 10 minutes later - on his knees looking under a bed - according to a police report. Johnson apparently re-entered the apartment via an unlocked door, police said.

After Johnson left the apartment for the second time, the neighbor noticed a wallet and a watch missing, police said.

Johnson was charged with home invasion, second-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and was held on a $100,000 bond until a Friday court appearance, police said.

Johnson appeared to be intoxicated during the incident, a police report indicates.

It is not the first time Johnson was arrested at the Fern Street building.

In April 2011, Johsnon, who was living in Hartford at the time, smashed a window there in an effort to continue an argument with a woman, police said.
Johnson had been arguing with the woman when he was told to leave, police said. He walked outside, but then allegedly turned around and came back to the house, police said. He allegedly broke a window to a back door and re-entered the dwelling, police said.

When police arrived, Johnson tried to sneak out of the apartment, but was found sitting inside, police said.

Johnson shows up as a registered sex offender from a 1987 conviction for third-degree sexual assault on Homefacts.com.
