Man Charged in Case Involving Alleged Abuse

The Hartford man was already in custody for a similar case.

A Hartford man has been charged with risk of injury to a child and second-degree assault in a case involving the alleged "long-term physical abuse" of an adolescent girl, a police spokesman said on Thursday.

Juan Carlos Gonzalez, a 39-year-old resident of 177 Weston St., Hartford, was already in court for a case with similar circumstances involving an "adult" female, police said. On Tuesday, he was charged in relation to a case involving the young girl, police said.

According to an arrest report from the Vernon police detective division, Gonzalez assaulted the girl at a Talcottville Road residence.

The alleged transgressions include him placing the girl in a shower fully clothed, holding her underwater in a bathtub and striking her with a metal belt buckle, according to an arrest report.
