He was arrested on Friday, police said.

A Vernon man who allegedly beat up his teenage nephew in an altercation was charged with numerous crimes on Friday, according to a police report.
David Rice, 40, of 14 Olive Lane, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to a child, and second-degree unlawful restraint, police said.

Rice was taken into custody at 5 p.m. on Friday, police said.

The boy attempted to leave a Vernon home to avoid a physical confrontation with Rice, but Rice allegedly held onto the boy, preventing him from leaving, according to a police report.

Rice then allegedly punched the boy in the face and upper body several times, according to a police report. The boy was then brought to the police department by a friend's mother, and he filed a complaint, according to a police report.

The boy was transported to Rockville general Hospital for his injuries, police said.
