Man Charged After Trying to Elude Police Through Condo Complex

Man was speeding on Old Town Road and then fled inside complex, police said.

A 19-year-old from South Windsor attempted to elude police by first attempting to cut through a local condominium complex in his vehicle and later on foot, police said.

Keith Huppe, of 36 Wedgewood Lane, South Windsor is facing charges that include third-degree criminal trespass, interfering with police, operating an unregistered vehicle, and reckless driving after speeding on Old Town Road and partially through the Ryefield condo complex at 12:47 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

Police said officers were not chasing Huppe, but trying to catch up to him.  He wound up parking inside the complex and fleeing on foot, police said. Ryefield takes up 60 and 70 Old Town Road.

He eventually returned to the scene and met with officers, according to an arrest report.

He was taken into custody, released on a $1,000 bond and assigned a court date of April 24, police said. Police said charges are pending against three others who ran from the scene.

"Whoever the police were chasing, stopped their car the next building over and ran out into the woods," a Ryefield resident said.
